Such a jam packed session! Clearly I am going to need to have my wits about me to keep up with the fast pace. Unfortunately I'd only manage to glance at the agenda very late the evening prior - not helpful at all.
I discovered that the language being used was not familiar to me and phrases such as digital sandpit and omnibox were just the first hurdle as I was all thumbs trying to navigate tabs and links.
I am very much reminded of how the unprepared or struggling, or ESOL pupil in my class must feel when all other students appear to know what they are doing and the teaching pace and language is beyond them. Frustration, embarrassment and the fight or flight response kicks in or rather retreat or slam the laptop closed!
Note to self :
1. Reminder to check everyone in my class understands tricky words or phrases before we begin.
2. Familiarise with upcoming DFI agenda beforehand (here's hoping this makes a difference).
Actions

Kia ora Viv,
ReplyDeleteWell done for sticking with it! Participating in something that is so new for us really does put us in our learners shoes and give us an appreciation for how hard things can be when we are trying to learn new things. Remember Kerry & I are both here to support you.
Ngā mihi
Vicki
Thanks for the encouragement Vicki
DeleteKia ora rā Viv,
ReplyDeleteIt was great to see a familiar face in the Google Meet last week. The 'I' for intensive in DFI will come to the fore over the next 8 weeks. But the great thing is that all the mahi is rewindable, so we are able to go back and relook at things we didn't quite grasp. I know for me, that if I don't use the new skill regularly I don't retain it, so I quite often go back and relook at things (or just ask Vicki. LOL!). But the good news is that people like Vicki, Kerry and I are here to help and assist you on this learning journey.
Ngā mihi nui
Nā Makaore
Good advice Makaore. I will be making use of the rewindable videos- nga mihi
